Dr. Michael Ormsbee named 2017 Nutritional Research Award Winner

The National Strength and Conditioning Association is proud to announce that Dr. Michael Ormsbee has been selected as the NSCA’s Nutritional Research Award recipient for 2017. Dr. Ormsbee becomes the 14th recipient of the award, which has been handed out since 2003. Award winners are selected by a volunteer committee, the NSCA’s Research Committee, who determine the winner based on their contributions to the NSCA, their community, and in nutrition research.

Dr. Ormsbee is an Associate Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences and the Associate Director of the Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicine at Florida State University. He also serves as a Faculty Affiliate for the Center for Advancing Exercise and Nutrition Research on Aging and he is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the International Society of Sports Nutrition. His expertise involves the interaction of exercise training, nutrition and supplementation to achieve optimal body composition, human performance, and health for both athletes and clinical populations. These interests have allowed Dr. Ormsbee to produce a Great Courses lecture through The Teaching Company titled “Changing Body Composition through Diet and Exercise.”

“We like to recognize Dr. Ormsbee for his outstanding accomplishment,” said Michael Massik, NSCA Executive Director. “This award is a small attempt to recognize him for the impact his research has made on the health and nutrition of athletes.”

Dr. Ormsbee will receive his award at the 40th Annual NSCA National Conference which will be held later this year in Las Vegas, NV from July 12-15.
