We are saddened to share the news that Judge Bill Glenn passed away on the evening of July 7th with his wife, Karen, by his side.
Judge Glenn meant a great deal to the College and was always actively committed to supporting its students, faculty, administration, and his mother’s legacy.
He was a member of the CHS Board of Governors/Dean’s Advisory Council and had served for 20 years. FSU and the College of Human Sciences were very special to Bill. His face always lit up whenever he spoke of his mother’s (Hortense Glenn) incredible journey, including serving as the College’s dean from 1958 – 1972.
In 2004, he helped to established the Glenn Honor Society in memory of his mother with the purpose to recognize students who have exhibited outstanding leadership and service while maintaining a high level of academic achievement. It gave Bill great pride to help continue the amazing legacy his mother had begun. He was always present at the College’s annual Honors & Awards ceremony to present awards to students inducted into the Glenn Society.
Judge Glenn was appointed to the Budget Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States in 2013. Prior to that, in 2010 he was elected to the National Board of Trustees of the American Inns of Court Foundation. Glenn was appointed to the bankruptcy bench for the Middle District of Florida in 1993 where he served until September, 2011. In 2005 he was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy, and was honored by the Hillsborough County Bar Association with the Robert W. Patton Outstanding Jurist Award in 2007. Judge Glenn has served as President of the Ferguson-White American Inn of Court in Tampa, and currently serves as President of the Chester Bedell American Inn of Court in Jacksonville. He practiced corporate and commercial law in Jacksonville and Miami and has been the Chief Executive and Administrative officers of two insurance companies. Glenn received his Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude from Florida State University, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Gold Key, and was Most Valuable Player on the Varsity Basketball team in 1966-67. He received his J.D. degree from Duke University School of Law, where he was President of the Law School Student Body.
