Joseph Laudato was one of fourteen recipients from across the nation to be awarded the National Strength Conditioning Association Foundation (NSCA) 2019 Challenge Scholarship. As a first year PhD student in the Nutrition, Food & Exercise Sciences Department Joe has been researching the effects of acute and chronic alcohol consumption on muscle mass, function, protein synthesis/signaling, and other states of muscle degradation.
“The NSCA has played an important role in my decision to continue pursuing a career in muscle physiology, through completing my CSCS and personal training, and having the opportunity to study both the basic and applied facets of strength and conditioning. After completing my PhD I hope to continue research in the area of skeletal muscle preservation and maintenance during diseased states, with hopes to connect the expertise of those involved with the NSCA to assist individuals suffering from muscle wasting disorders.”
