Prashant Singh’s equipment grant from NIFA will expand research and teaching capacity

Prashant Singh, assistant professor in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology, received a $61,100 equipment grant from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture to purchase a VITEK 2 Compact system to conduct microbial identification and antibiotic susceptibility testing. The new system will expand research and teaching capacity in the areas of bacterial identification, food microbiology, food safety, soil microbiology, fermentation and antibiotic resistance. It will also enhance collaborations by facilitating the use of shared equipment at Florida State University and Florida A&M University.

Assistant Professors Ravinder Nagpal and Stephen Hennigar are co-project directors.
