The Florida Association for Food Protection recently named Assistant Professor Prashant Singh the 2023 Laboratorian of the Year.
The award recognizes outstanding commitment in utilizing and developing innovative and practical lab techniques to support food safety. It has been awarded since 2006 to industry representatives, researchers, and others. Singh, a food safety microbiologist, is the first recipient from Florida State University. His core area of research focuses on the development of rapid methods for the detection of foodborne pathogens.
Recently, Singh and his team in the Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology collaborated with seafood industry representatives to develop a quick and cost-effective authenticity test to identify Atlantic white shrimp. Click here to read more.
