NFES Doctoral Student Receives AOAC “Testing for Life” Student Award

Xingyi JiangXingyi Jiang, a third-year Nutrition and Food Science Program doctoral candidate in Dr. Rao’s lab, was selected as a recipient of the AOAC/Eurofins Foundation “Testing for Life” Student Award. This AOAC Award, supported by the Eurofins Foundation, is designed to encourage student researchers who are advancing basic or applied science in analytical or molecular testing for food safety, food security, food defense, food authenticity, or health and environment protection. As a recipient, she will receive a $3,000 scholarship, a 1-year student membership in AOAC INTERNATIONAL, complementary travel, lodging and registration to attend a future meeting, and an external mentorship experience tailored to her research activities. She will be giving a poster presentation and a 10-minutes oral talk at the mini-symposium during the 2020 AOAC INTERNATIONAL Annual Meeting (September 11-17) in Orlando, Florida. Her award-winning research abstract is titled ”Immunoassay Development for the Detection of Meat Adulterants.”
Also, Xingyi’s other conference abstract titled “Monoclonal Antibodies Specific to Seafood Proteins to Fight Seafood Fraud” was selected to compete in the Aquatic Foods Products Division at the 2020 Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Virtual Annual Meeting (July 13-15). She was also the recipient of an International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) Student Travel Scholarship for attending the 2020 IAFP Annual Meeting (October 25-28) in Cleveland, Ohio.
