Assistant professor Michelle Parvatiyar joined an Assistant professor Michelle Parvatiyar joined an interdisciplinary team from FSU, @uofwa, and @theohiostateuniversity to gain a better understanding of the origins of heart failure. The FSU team was comprised of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty members from @fsucom and @fsuartssciences. The team discovered that there were fewer post-translational modifications (PTMs) of the beta myosin protein in individuals who had experienced heart failures, which may contribute to the functional decline of individuals with heart disease.

Future research is planned to investigate how PTMs impact the contractile ability of these critical proteins. Understanding this dysfunction will help researchers develop future therapies to counter the effects of heart failure and improve the quality of life of those suffering from heart disease.
