Assistant Professor – Sports Nutrition (9-month salaried)

Position: The Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Florida State University seeks candidates for a full-time (9 month) tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Sports Nutrition. The successful candidate is expected to develop an extramurally funded research program that will strengthen and complement the department’s ongoing research activity. Preference will be given to applicants conducting research related to nutrition and diet with regards to improving health and physical performance; warfighter or first responder performance/resilience; and/or female physiology. The salary and startup package are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in nutrition, exercise physiology, or related discipline and have significant postdoctoral training or postgraduate experience. The applicant must demonstrate a record of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and evidence of extramural support for research activities.

Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be expected to: (1) develop/maintain a nationally and internationally recognized extramurally funded research program, (2) contribute to the department’s teaching and service efforts at the undergraduate and graduate levels, (3) recruit and mentor graduate students, and (4) contribute to the mission of the Institute of Sports Sciences and Medicine.

The Department of Nutrition and Integrative Physiology is the 6th largest department at Florida State University (FSU) with 1,250 undergraduate and 100 graduate students. The department offers undergraduate majors in Nutrition & Dietetics, Food Science, Exercise Physiology, and Athletic Training. The department offers graduate degrees at the Master’s level in Sports Nutrition, Nutrition & Food Science, Exercise Physiology, and Sports Sciences. The department also offers graduate degrees at the doctoral level in Nutrition & Food Science and Exercise Physiology. The faculty in the department have expertise in nutrition, exercise physiology, and food sciences with areas of research interest related to nutritional supplementation, nutrient timing, the role of functional foods and gut microbiome in chronic diseases, food safety, obesity, aging, cardiovascular and skeletal muscle physiology, cancer, smoking/vaping and alcohol abuse.
